Built by Henry VIII to protect England from European invasion, this seaside castle has a fascinating history and is a great place to explore, with dark passages that wind through the castle walls.

Discover one of the finest Tudor artillery castles in England as you step back in time during your visit. Here you are free to explore the entire castle, from the storerooms to the first-floor captain’s residence, as you immerse yourself in the rich history of this coastal fort. You’ll relive the stories of the people who worked and lived here over four hundred years ago.

New activities and interactive exhibits ensure that you or your little ones will not get bored. Children can grab a pair of wellies and a wooden musket then let their imaginations to run wild. There’s more fun and creativity on offer in the new graffiti lounge where the little ones are encouraged to design their own motifs.
